Pub quizzes are a time honored tradition at bars all over the world. Geeks Who Drink is a nationwide company that takes these quizzes to a whole other level. With cleverly written questions and themed rounds, including audio (music and movie/TV crips) and video rounds (as well as their famous and sometimes maddeningly difficult visual fifth round), it’s eight rounds of team trivia madness. We’d say “this ain’t your daddy’s pub quiz”, but that’s something stupid people say, so we won’t. Best of all, it’s usually free to play and prizes can range from a free beer to a bar tab of a specified amount to even a Hello Kitty pencil sharpener (I once won a cigarette dispenser shaped like an elephant where the cigarette came out of the elephant’s butt. It was awesome).

We say “usually” because the quiz on June 8, 2013 is a little different. That night, and that night only, in twelve cities across the country, Geeks Who Drink will be running their first even Game of Thrones themed quiz, Fire Alone Cannot Kill A Quizmaster. They’ve held themed quizzes like this before, ranging from topics such as Seinfeld, Joss Whedon and Arrested Development. As such, you can expect questions that will cause even the most hardcore fan to scratch their heads. If you and no more than five of your friends (teams are limited to six – and only six – players) can pull it off, though, there’s some serious scratch to be won.

Game of Thrones

As we were saying, unlike the usual quizzes, this one has a $5 per player entry fee. Those five clams will give you and your team a chance to win a cash prize of anywhere from $200 to $500. Questions will cover both the hit HBO series and the series of books by George R. R. Martin that the show is based on. So, you’re really going to need to know your Game of Thrones for this one.

If you live in one of the following twelve cities, check the Geeks Who Drink website or Facebook event page to find out where you can play. You can also find out where your closest weekly quiz takes place, so you can pop in for free and see how things work. Who knows? You may find yourself addicted.
